Classical Chinese acupuncture

I practice Classical Chinese acupuncture in Brighton and Hove, which is rooted in the ‘Classics’ literature of ancient Chinese medicine and philosophy.

This holistic approach focusses on balance and the concept of Qi (pronounced “chee”), which is considered the vital energy that flows through the body along specific pathways known as meridians. This practice involves the insertion of fine needles at precise acupuncture points to restore balance and harmony within the body. The main principles include:

  1. Holistic: Classical acupuncture treats the entire body rather than just the symptoms, promoting overall health and well-being.
  2. Diagnosis: Practitioners often use pulse diagnosis, tongue examination, and a detailed medical history to understand the patient’s condition.
  3. Meridian Theory: There are 12 primary meridians associated with specific organs, each linked to various physical and emotional aspects of health.
  4. Treatment Goals: The aim is to unblock stagnant Qi, enhance its flow, and harmonize the body’s functions, addressing a wide range of ailments from pain to emotional disturbances.

My approach

For many, when they enter into the acupuncture clinic, they are entering into that rare hour of their busy week where they can be listened to, invited to rest and be welcomed simply as they are.

I offer compassionate support and continuity of care. This therapeutic space, in my opinion, contributes to the high success rate in treating a wide range of conditions. For my patients, choosing to prioritise their health and committing to regular treatments is often the first step to healing.

Expertise

I specialise in women’s health and fertility treatments for women, men, non-binary folks and couples of any gender or orientation. I’ve completed post-grad trainings in fertility and gynaecology and keep up to date with current techniques. I’m a member of the acupuncture childbirth team (ACT, Sussex).

I have a particular interest in working with migraine sufferers and have had notable success in this area.

Acupuncture has broad-reaching effects, and I’m constantly reminded of its power. If you are wondering if acupuncture can help you, you are very welcome to contact me at any time.

What to expect in clinic

I offer a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment by bringing together many years of training in various disciplines.

In your first appointment with me you can expect plenty of time to discuss your presenting issues. After taking a complete case history, I will take your pulses and ‘read’ your tongue, these are diagnostic tools from the Chinese medical canon, and essential to every acupuncturist.

You will then receive a treatment and perhaps some guided meditation if desired. Most people find the treatment extremely relaxing. Over our following sessions there will be space to talk and be heard and I will advise on diet and lifestyle as we progress with treatment.

Training and education

I graduated in 2017 from The International College of Oriental Medicine (ICOM), East Grinstead, gaining a Bachelor of Science Degree (hons) in acupuncture. ICOM is the longest running acupuncture college in Europe.
